Existing sand removal and prep for BBB installation

Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, Scottsdale)
Golf Creations is currently completing work for management giant ClubCorp in Arizona at a trio of private facilities:

Anthem Golf Club located north of Phoenix
Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale
Oro Valley Country Club near Tucson

The detailed scope at each of the AZ properties differs a bit, but generally consists of bunker renovations using the Better Billy Bunker lining system.  The first phase of work at Gainey Ranch includes renovation of 119,000 sf of bunkers on 18 of the club’s 27 holes, equipping them with BBB and Augusta White sand shipped in from California.  Phase two (the final 9 holes) is set to commence shortly after (Fall 2015) using the same method.  The project at Oro Valley, another property where ClubCorp is wisely investing in the BBB system and new sand to improve bunker sustainability and maintenance efficiency, will include renovation of over 2-acres of bunkers, with plans to screen and use the old sand to top-dress the course’s fairways.

The scope at Anthem, which was completed this spring, was a little more involved, including resurfacing of the greens along with the bunkers.  Following careful GPS mapping of existing conditions, a 3-inch top layer was removed from each of the 22 greens (approx. 145,000 sf) then replaced with new sand mix.  The new surfaces were graded out to the pre-existing contours using the GPS data, with a few adjustments for additional pinning area, and then sprigged to MiniVerde Bermuda.  At the same time, GC outfitted 78,000 sf of bunkers with BBB liners and new sand, all work being completed in less than 6 weeks.

ClubCorp - Quail Hollow TweetConcord, Ohio  Golf Creations first foray with ClubCorp occurred at Quail Hollow Country Club.  Located just east of Cleveland and containing two 18-hole Devlin/Von Hagge and Weiskopf/Morrish championship courses, Quail Hollow’s 100,000+ sf of bunkers will be renovated over three short phases, the first two already being completed.  After removing sand, then checking and fixing drainage, each bunker was equipped with BBB liner and new Signature Best Sand.  The resulting look was showcased in this Tweet from Quail Hollow superintendent, Sam Leatherberry:
