Grow the Game

Randall Links Learning 2For those like us at Lohmann Companies who deem themselves “keepers of the game”, the recent decline in golf has been a hard reality, albeit a valuable lesson. We understand now that preserving the future of golf and helping it to flourish means that we must grow and attract new players.

To do this, golf must be affordable and accessible, and it must be grown from within as much as from without. Golf needs facilities suited to this growth and the market they are serving.  For this reason, we are involved in several Grow the Game initiatives at LC, here are a couple of our favorites:

LAALinks Across America is an initiative that creates new and affordable short courses (from 3 to 9 holes) to provide golfing opportunities to young people, families and adult beginners of all ethnic backgrounds, in addition to individuals with disabilities or injuries. The Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation (WGCF), philanthropic arm of Wadsworth Golf Construction, funds development of these projects while enlisting various golf industry vendors to donate services like course design and construction.

The Lohmann Companies are proud partners of this initiative, and have participated in the construction of three of these projects to date (and half a dozen more in planning).  Following the LAA model, we donated large portions of our services to each projects’ realization.

First Links is a combined initiative of the ASGCA Foundation and PGA of America that provides grants to applicants to pay for visits by ASGCA members to evaluate golf facilities for their potential to develop a short course or practice area, or to otherwise modify their existing layouts in a way to welcome new players. ASGCA member consultants follow up their one-day visits with a site evaluation report describing ideas for layout or open land reconfiguration. To date, Lohmann Golf Designs has been involved in two First Links projects.
